Migraine is one type of headache that is often experienced by many people.
Some people who often experience it already have their own methods to repel migraines. However, what happens if the migraines that are experienced give different symptoms?
Common Symptoms of Migraines
Migraine attacks often occur during puberty. Symptoms can develop in four stages, although not all sufferers experience all these stages. The four symptoms consist of:
Prodromal stage.
This stage can begin a day or two before the attack of headaches. The symptoms felt at this stage include a fickle mood, a desire to eat certain foods, a stiff neck, frequent yawning, constipation, frequent thirst, and frequent urination.
Symptoms of Migraines With Aura
This stage can occur before or during migraines. Examples are visual impairments, such as seeing flashes of light and blurred vision. In addition to visual impairments, sufferers may also experience verbal, sensory, and motor impairments. Each symptom generally starts slowly, and can develop or persist for 20-60 minutes.
Attack headaches.
This stage can last for approximately 4-72 hours. Some of the symptoms that can arise are headaches on one side or sometimes on both sides of the head, a throbbing or tingling head, blurred vision, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, and sensitivity to light, sound, smell, and touch.
Resolution.
This final stage of migraine occurs after a migraine attack. Generally, resolution occurs about 24 hours after an attack. Symptoms at this stage include mood swings, mild headaches, fatigue, and sensitivity to light and sound.
Apart from the 4 stages above, \there are some common symptoms of migraines such as:
Mood changes
Mood swings can be a sign of migraines. Research in the Netherlands reported a genetic link between depression and migraines, especially migraines with aura.
Data presented by the American Academy of Neurology in 2010 showed that moderate or severe depression increased the risk of episodic migraines becoming chronic.
Lack of good sleep
Having trouble sleeping is a common problem in people with migraines. Studies have shown a link between restorative sleep deprivation and the frequency and intensity of migraines.
When migraines strike, it is difficult to get a good night’s sleep. Inability to sleep can be the beginning of a vicious circle, as research shows that sleep deprivation can also trigger migraines.
Unusual Symptoms of Migraines Could Be Signs of Serious Illness
Those of you who often experience migraines need to be careful. Because, if the symptoms of migraine experienced are different from the usual, it could be a sign of the emergence of a more serious disease.
What are the signs?
Acute pain
Migraines often have prodromes or auras that give sufferers a warning of possible bad things.
When your migraines are different than usual and there are unprecedented acute headaches, there may be more serious health problems. For example, rupture of blood vessels in the brain.
Migraine accompanied by fever
Some cases of headache or migraine are followed by fever, and it should not be ignored.
Bacterial meningitis can be fatal. Therefore, if this happens try to check with the doctor.
Neurotic symptoms that have never been experienced before
If you experience nerve-related symptoms such as weakened facial veins or weakened arms during migraines, then you should immediately see a doctor.
Some symptoms such as weakened face and arms, to difficulty speaking, could be an early sign of stroke.
