Sedentary Lifestyle Effects

A sedentary lifestyle is a type of lifestyle with little or no physical activity. A person who spends all day just sitting or lying down while doing activities such as reading, just watching television, or struggling with a computer most of the day has the potential to suffer from a severe illness until death.

The three deadliest diseases that have recently increased and are caused by sedentary lifestyle are heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.

Not only that, there are many other negative effects of this inactive lifestyle, such as emotional distress and depression.

The study found that someone who sat for more than 6 hours a day at work was 90 percent more likely to feel psychological distress such as feeling nervous, restless, desperate, or even tired.

What’s more, other types of sedentary behavior such as watching television or playing electronic games can increase the risk of anxiety because when the body is immobile it is unable to produce endorphin hormones that can improve mood.

How does a sedentary lifestyle affect health

The term sedentary lifestyle is increasingly popular when it comes to health problems. This is because sedentary lifestyle is considered as a risk factor for various popular health problems such as heart disease and stroke. Risk factors are things that can increase a person’s chances of suffering from a disease.

Sedentary lifestyle is also a risk factor for various problems of metabolic disorders; such as: high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, insulin resistance, obesity, etc.

Sedentary Lifestyle Prevention

The thing that can be done to prevent sedentary lifestyle is to stay active even though you are in the house all day.

Some activities such as stretching periodically every 2 or 3 hours, cleaning the house, increasing the walk, and reducing sitting time or lying down will be a complement to regular exercise done.

You can also use technologies such as smart watches to monitor patterns and durations of daily physical activity.

How to get out of a sedentary lifestyle?

The only way to get out of the sedentary lifestyle is to actively move. Exercising is one of the best ways to get health benefits from physical activity.
